Music Video Examples (a critique) P1 (a-f)

Editing:

The pace of the video is quite slow. There were parts of the video where they had a lot going on so to fit the crucial parts of he video in they slowed down the shots. The video had a mirroring or a cloning effect on the older version of the couple. This was mainly used on the chorus. 

Narrative:

This video tells the story of montages of three separate time periods of a couple's life. From their first introduction and falling in love on a funhouse date. To the difficult start of their marriage with a pregnancy, to when they have grown old together and the old lady packing up her deceased husband's belongings whilst reflecting on their life together. This video mostly shows the couple on their journey through life and then ends with Justin Timberlake singing the last verse and the chorus of his song in a wall of mirrors surrounded by women in wigs dancing. 

Camera:

The shots in the video were all mainly at eye level. There were no special effects or different lenses used. The same angles were used in the elders scenes. When the couple meet for the first time, the camera is following the girl and when she sees him it directly turns to the boy then back to the girl again. In the scene when she is pregnant they zoom and focus on her stomach, then to her face, which she has makeup smeared down the sides. 

Mise-en-scene:

The costumes were different throughout the video. The teen couple were wearing vintage country western style clothing, eg. jeans, jean jackets, neck scarves. The old couple are wearing trendy old fashion jumpers, trousers and tops. As a young adult couple they are wearing vintage glamour clothing eg. shiny heels, elegant dresses, smart shirts. 

As a Teen couple the lighting was dim.
As a Young adult couple the lighting was bright.
As an Older couple the lighting was very bright. 

Editing:

The pace of this video is quite fast. There are use of different effects throughout the video. There is a negative effect, blue tint, and a blur. There are different angles of the shots, so they are not all the same and gives the video a bit more perspective. There are blur effects on some of her body parts as they were very noticeable.

Narrative:

This video doesn't really have a narrative story. Most of the time Miley Cyrus is stroking her body and touching her face as to show her previous love will he still love her after this.

Camera:

The camera shots were mainly close ups of Miley Cyrus's face and body parts. She is mainly holding the camera herself, so the camera is moving round quite a bit. 

Mise-en-scene:

The costumes in this video were very revealing. She shows quite a lot of skin. One of her costumes is a beige underwear set. Her second is a black lace dress.
